High Desert Harmony Chorus presented an exciting, crowd-pleasing show, "Harmony in the Park -- A Celebration of Barbershop Music" on July 16th at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. Despite the hot July weather, a crowd estimated at more than 450 people filled the park, bringing chairs and blankets for this fun free evening of barbershop music.

In addition to HDH, the local men's Silver Dollar Chorus performed, as did two men's quartets, The Summertimers and Never Too Late, and Serafina women's quartet. The men's and women's choruses performed two songs together, "Lida Rose/Dream of Now" in traditional barbershop style, as well as a beautiful rendition of "America the Beautiful." Dancers were featured during "Lida Rose/Dream of Now" and HDH's "I Hope You Dance."

Before the show, HDH held an introductory workshop on barbershop music for willing audience members, both children and adults, who learned the "Mickey Mouse" tag which they performed on stage with HDH. The evening, presented as part of Artown, Reno's month-long celebration of the arts, was so much fun -- we were thrilled to be able to share the joys of barbershop music with our community!
